At the behest of the Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, the provincial government has allocated Rs 220 million, under the Education Sector Reforms Programme, for the provision of missing basic facilities in the government schools and electrifying districts as many as 926 different government schools.
Commissioner Gujranwala Division Khalid Masud Chaudhry disclosed this, while presiding over a high level meeting of the district heads of the nation building departments. Sialkot DCO Captain (Retd) Atta Muhammad Khan, EDO (Education) Muhammad Ali, S E (Gepco) Amanat Ali Bhatti, District Officer Planning Tariq Mehmood and senior member District Peace Committee Zafar Malik were also present on this occasion.
Commissioner told the meeting that the Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grave concern over the miserable condition of the government schools in district's four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils and has directed the concerned officials to ensure early provision of the missing facilities there.
He said that the School Management Committee would also be reactivated, besides ensuring the provision of furniture, electricity, potable drinking water, Information Technology Labs and establishment of additional classrooms and boundary walls in the above-mentioned schools.
Commissioner directed the concerned officials of Gepco to release the funds to district's as many as 215 elementary schools for their early electrification on the recommendations by the DCO Captain (Retd) Atta Muhammad Khan. On this occasion, S E (Gepco) Sialkot, Amanat Ali Bhatti told the Commissioner that the Gepco has already issued the demand notices to Sialkot district's 718 government schools out of total 926 schools since there establishment.
The demand notices of such 372 government schools have been deposited to the banks, while more than 254 government schools have been electrified in district's four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils. EDO, Education Muhammad Ali told the meeting that the provincial government has provided furniture to district's as many as 2025 government schools, including 129 primary and elementary and 119 high schools, while the remaining schools would also be provided furniture soon.
