Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza has said that Shaheed Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto was a visionary leader and a stateswoman who always aspired for a world, free from exploitation and discrimination between privileged and under-privileged, and man and woman.
In her message on the eve of birth anniversary of Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto, Fehmida Mirza said Benazir Bhutto fought for the downtrodden and oppressed and longed for the forward looking Pakistan where women were not subject to humiliation, torture and were treated with respect as equal partners in progress and prosperity.
She said that Shaheed Mohtarama had a towering and multi-dimensional personality and was beacon of life for the downtrodden, oppressed and marginalised segments of the nation. She said that Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto had the guts and courage to challenge the worst dictatorships.
She had to pass through the whirlpool of vendetta by repressive regimes in shape of brutal assassination of her father, murder of her two brothers, imprisonment of her husband, physical and mental torture, however she bravely faced the dictatorship and remained steadfast in her commitment to people and democracy, the Speaker said. Dr Fehmida Mirza said that Mohtarama worked diligently as twice elected Prime Minister towards the well-defined goals of women empowerment.-PR
