State Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar on Saturday said that the government is considering to abolish carbon surcharge levied on kerosene oil and diesel in the recent budget. Briefing Senators in the upper house, she said that members from both Senate and National Assembly have expressed serious concern over the issue.
They are of the view that possible imposition of carbon surcharge on petroleum products would affect the life of common man and lead to inflation. "The government will reconsider it once the budget debate in National Assembly is completed," she added. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had recently announced in the National Assembly to withdraw carbon surcharge on CNG and directed Hina Rabbani Khar to review the carbon surcharge imposed on other petroleum products.
