A group of 25 women community livestock extension workers completed a six-day advanced training course in the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences under the EU-sponsored Strengthening of Livestock Services Project (SLSP).
On completion of the course at the Ravi Campus, the participants were given certificates on Sunday at a ceremony presided over by Dean Life Sciences Business Management Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Dr Salah-ud-Din and SLSP Deputy Project Director Dr Liaqat were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pasha said that women's role is vital for the development of livestock sector so their training in extension skills is very essential to this end.
Dr Salah-ud-Din said that the participants were selected from Kasur, Gujrat, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur and Chakwal districts of Punjab and they were trained in vaccination, management, nutrition, communication and extension skills,
2-week course on 'Scientific, Ethical Procedures for Laboratory Animals' at UVAS.
Meanwhile Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, UK, is arranging a two-week course on "Scientific and .Ethical Procedures for Laboratory Animals" for research scientists from Monday (today).
Primary objective of this training is to familiarise the research scientists with the current internationally accepted standards and procedures in the conduct of animal research.
It will provide hands-on training on the state-of-the-art techniques used in laboratory animals research. The course will cover topics such as biology, management, handling, restraining, analgesia and anaesthesia of lab animals. Also, the concerns regarding related international legislation, project design, selection of appropriate animal models add 3Rs (replacement, reduction, refinement) will he addressed. The course will conclude on July 4.
