Shanghai copper rose on Tuesday as investors resumed buying after prices fell over the last three sessions, encouraged by signs the Chinese economy will remain strong. London copper also recovered from losses of more than 5 percent on Monday when a firmer dollar and worries about Chinese restocking drying up hurt sentiment, prompting a rebound in other base metals.
"There's significant short-covering and fresh buying. A lot of people think the macro economy will be better in the second half of this year so demand will be much better," said a Shanghai-based trader. "It's Chinese buying the whole day."
