The Special Committee of the Parliament on Constitutional Reforms, which informally met here on Thursday with the National Assembly Speaker Fahmida Mirza in the chair, convened its first meeting on June 29 to make terms of reference in the light of the resolution passed by the Parliament for doing away with 17th Constitutional Amendment. The meeting decided that Senator Raza Rabbani would be the convenor of the committee till the election of its chairman.
Members of the committee lauded the Speaker for the constitution and announcing the committee and termed it an historical event. "People were pinning hopes on the committee and it was imperative to come up to the expectations of the masses," said the members.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Zaheeruddin Babar Awan, Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar, Minister for Privatisation Syed Naveed Qamar, MNAs Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Chaudhary Ahsan Iqbal, Hamayun Saifullah Khan, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Munir Khan Orakzai and Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi; Senators Mian Raza Rabbani, Abdul Rahim Khan Mandokhel, Shahid Hassan Bugti, S.M Zafar, Ishaq Dar and Haji Muhammad Adeel.
