Innovative and novel initiatives, based on food engineering, bio-technology and environmental engineering, were the dire need of the hour to transform our traditional agricultural practices into mechanised farming, to enhance agricultural productivity by expanding the agricultural mechanisation scope in the country.
This was emphasised by Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture Faisalabad in a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Engineering Council, here at his chamber on Thursday morning.
Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan told the guests that the UAF sought to make major contributions to agricultural advancement across the country and was dedicated to the prosecution of research across all fields of study, believing in a research culture with clear application and relevance.
He underlined the need for a high-efficiency irrigation system, as water scarcity was a major threat to our crops. Describing global warming as a disastrous phenomenon, he said that we need to redesign our cropping patterns, keeping in view the agro-ecological zones.
The PEC delegation, comprising of Eng Dr Taj Ali Khan, Dr Nadeem Amjad, and Eng. Dr Nasir Mehmood Khan, later on visited the various departments and laboratories of the university and participated in an Engineering Exhibition organised by the Society of Agricultural Engineers, UAF.
