Prominent artist, social worker and human rights activist, Jimmy Engineer on Friday underscored the dire need for promotion and strengthening of art and culture related activities to provide the people with much needed relief and solace from their sorts of worries and concerns.
Talking to APP on his arrival here from Karachi, Jimmy Engineer said such activities would not only provide the lovers of art and culture with something to cheer about but also go a long way to promote soft, positive, tolerant and moderate image of Pakistan and its people before the comity of nations.
He said the people would be well advised to shun materialism and take recourse to the teachings of popular saints, understand, appreciate and spread the message of love, brotherhood, tolerance and affection. Jimmy Engineer said the golden words of Unity, Faith and Discipline of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, should also be adhered to in letter and spirit as a united, integrated and disciplined nation. He said having unflinching faith in Almighty Allah can face all internal and external challenges and threats with courage.
Replying to a question, he said, his major artwork comprising some 77 paintings is ready for exhibition in the country. These paintings include architectural compositions and poverty series and would remind the art lovers about glorious heritage and culture of Pakistan and other countries of South Asia.
Jimmy Engineer said various prospective venues including Islamabad and Lahore are being considered by him and expressed the hope that a decision in this regard would be taken in due course of time. Regarding his social work, Jimmy Engineer said, he is continuing with these as and when an opportunity arises to hold a walk for some noble cause or in the public interest.
He said his popular Fund, Food and Awareness Programme for the Special Children would also be revived after the summer vacations in the educational institutions. He said the programme not only help the physically disabled and mentally retarded, blind and deaf children for their interaction with each other outside their special education and training institutions and also create greater awareness among the parents.
Jimmy Engineer said the Fun, Food and Awareness Programme was started from Karachi, has already been extended to Lahore and now he has planed to organise such programmes for the special children in other parts of the country both in the rural and urban areas.
