Stormy winds and intermittent rains lashed coastal areas of Thatta district on Friday. It was since Thursday evening that it started raining in Thatta and other parts of the district and continued throughout the night. As per reports the sea-water has gushed up and inundated several coastal villages including Ketibundar, Shahbundar, Jati, Gorabari and Kharochhan Talukas.
Large number of villages has been disconnected due to inundation of roads in the coastal areas. A majority of fishermen have returned from deep sea and anchored their boats at safer places on the shore. Local villagers were contacting those fishermen who were still in the sea to return to the shore in view of the expected high winds and rains during next 48 hours. The district administration has declared emergency in the district and issued all concerned departments to be in high alert.
DCO Thatta Manzoor Shaikh has directed all officials to stay at their duty places round the clock. The local revenue officials visited the coastal villages and issued warnings to the villagers to take preventive measure in view of the expected storm. DCO said that all measures were adopted to meet any eventuality and added that so far no migration of the population has been reported, however, villagers were directed to stay at safer places and avoid going into the sea.
