NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani called on President Asif Ali Zardari in the Presidency on Friday. Matters pertaining to the ongoing drive against militants in Waziristan, relief and rehabilitation efforts for displaced persons and plans for the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Swat were discussed in the meeting.
The President said the government was determined to pursue the ongoing drive against militancy to its logical end. He said militants had to give up militancy and submit to state authority or be prepared for physical extermination. The charade could not be allowed to go on, he added.
The Governor apprised the President of the latest update on the relief and rehabilitation of the IDPs. The President reiterating government's commitment to the return and rehabilitation of the IDPs stressed that all necessary measures be taken to ensure that they do not face any difficulty when they return to their homes. He also appreciated the provincial government's contribution to relief efforts.
