Air Commodore Rizwanullah Khan Shaheed Memorial Trust (Rizwan Scholars) has awarded scholarships worth Rs 8.5 million to 200 deserving students so far and 90 of these students have already graduated. This was stated in a press release issued from Rizwan Scholars on Saturday.
The trust awards scholarships to students from low-income households who have excelled in their academic pursuits but are unable to meet the financial requirement of higher education. Rizwan Scholars' mission is to help young Pakistanis in obtaining quality education regardless of their ethnicity, gender or religion.
Considering the performance of Rizwan Scholars, Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP), which is an independent, non-profit, support organisation leading philanthropy promotion in Pakistan, has awarded it the Non-profit Organisation (NPO) Certification after independent and objective evaluation enhancing the trust's credibility. Only a select few organisations in Pakistan have achieved the NPO Certification to date.
PCP's NPO Certification Programme aims to facilitate credible non-profit organisations in diversifying their resource base and expanding their programmes for social development. Rizwan Scholars was established in the memory of Air Commodore Rizwanullah Khan who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty in February 2003.
Soon after his death family and friends, to help provide scholarships to bright deserving students at the tertiary level established a Trust. Rizwan Scholars was registered under the Trust Act, 1882 in April 2003, got its NPO Certification after a thorough evaluation in critical areas of internal governance, financial management and programme delivery.-PR
