A high level delegation headed by the Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf has left for Egypt to attend second session of the Preparatory Commission of International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena) to be held at Sharm El Sheikh on 29 June. The delegation comprises of the Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf and senior officials of AEDB.
Irena was officially established in Bonn on 26 January 2009. A Total of 120 countries have become members till now and more are expected to sign on the first day of second session of the Preparatory Commission at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt. The second session of the Preparatory Commission will hold special significance as member states will vote to decide the Interim headquarters and the Interim Director General, Vienna, Bonn and Masdar City in contention for the Headquarters.
The aims and objectives of the Second Session are to ensure the rapid and effective establishment of the Agency. These elements of the work programme kick off of first activities reflecting Irena's main tasks, such as providing policy advice on renewable energy, supporting technology and knowledge transfer as well as capacity building.-PR
