In pursuance of Punjab Chief Minister's directions, compensation amount of Rs 25 million has been distributed among the residents of old quarters of Mayo Hospital. A cheque distribution ceremony was held at Mayo Hospital. Chairman Chief Minister's Task Force, Dr Asad Ashraf, Media Advisor to Chief Minister, Khawaja Imran Nazir and Aajasam Sharif MPA distributed the cheques among 168 families at the rate of Rs 148, 809 per family.
It may be mentioned that old quarters of the hospitals were declared dangerous and uninhabitable by the authorities concerned. Addressing on the occasion, Dr Asad Ashraf appreciated the gesture of hospital employees who vacated the quarters amicably. He said that these employees in fact contributed to the master plan of Mayo Hospital.
He also explained on the occasion the revolutionary steps taken by the Chief Minister in health sector like free provision of medicines in hospitals and free dialysis for kidney patients. Khawaja Imran Nazir said in his speech that paramedics were the backbone of the health delivery system, who serve humanity selflessly. He said, "we believe in serving the masses." MS Mayo Hospital, Dr Zahid Pervez said that these quarters were declared dangerous and uninhabitable in 1985.
He said that 22 other buildings of the hospital have also been declared dangerous which would also be demolished and construction would be made according to the master plan of the hospital. He said that Chief Minister had directed to make Mayo Hospital a state-of-the-art institution and a model hospital.
