This event is celebrated in the West because parents as they grow old are neglected. A stage comes when they are shifted to "Oldage Homes". The concept of family life - traditions and culture are diagonally opposed to what we have here.
If you view the life of a child and corresponding relation to what he undergoes till age sixteen, you find variation in family unity, love and closeness from within. Parents are working class and are busy from 9 to 5 five days a week. The child is left at the Day Care Centre to be taken care of by the staff there. At grade 12 which is the school leaving stage, forty percent of children drop out for a variety of reasons. In troubled families children are shifted to "Foster Homes" maintained by the government. This is applicable to both boys and girls.
The concept of celebrating Father's Day, Mother's Day, Valentine Day cropped up in Pakistan in the new millennium as an after effect of our close association with the West.
Every Pakistani family has someone abroad who has migrated and they are influencing our traditions and customs. In Pakistan parents as they grow old are respected more and taken care of by the children. Whereas in the West aged parents dumped at "Oldage Homes". Look forward to see their kids on special occasions like Father's Day, Mother's Day or their birthdays. Children come to greet them annually with a bouquet of flowers and this is all that they get in return from their kids.
We would not like to treat our parents that way. Let us not forget our traditions that we have been following from our ancestors.
