Unprecedented increase was recorded in Indus River on Monday morning with water inflow 197,700 cusecs which is considered a good sign for the water availability in Tarbela Dam, the largest water reservoir of the country. According to a press release issued by Irsa regarding details of water inflows, a total 1388.92 feet water level was recorded at Tarbela, the largest water reservoir of the country which was about 20 feet higher than the dead level 1,369 at the dam.
Tarbela Dam received a total inflow 197,000 cusecs on Monday morning 150,000 cusecs water was released from the Dam. According to data released by Indus River System Authority (Irsa), water level at Mangla, the second largest water reservoir of the country was recorded 1163.50 feet which was about 123 feet higher than the dead level which is 1040 feet.
Mangla Dam received a total inflow 53,004 cusecs water and 40,000 cusecs water was released according to the official data. Water inflow 64,450 cusecs was recorded in the River Kabul and 64,122 cusecs inflow was recorded at Marala of Chenab River. A total inflow in all the rivers was recorded 382,626 cusecs and 321,922 cusecs water was released according to the official data released by Irsa.
Meanwhile, a total shortfall of electricity was recorded 2597MW as demand was recorded 15,169MW against the total generation of 12,572MW according to the press release issued by the Ministry of Water and Power. Shortfall has increased due to the high demand of the electricity as the weather is getting hotter in almost all parts of the country.
The gap/shortfall in supply and demand has increased resulting load shedding. Last year same day the Pepco was doing load shedding of 8 to 10 hours in urban and rural areas, respectively. There is less load shedding now-a-days as compared to same period last year, the release said.
