Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that people of Pakistan will soon get rid of the menace of the terrorism as a result of the on-going military operation launched in Malakand division and other parts of the NWFP. Speaking in the National Assembly on Monday, the Prime Minister said the second and third tiers of the militant leadership had been eliminated and those, having head money, would also face the consequences.
He said the country was proud of its armed forces, who were rendering great sacrifices in this war. The Prime Minister said: "We are fighting the war on two fronts. We will, Inshallah, win on the military front and would also succeed in winning hearts and minds of the IDPs." He said the Information Minister was the focal person on the IDPs, while Special Support Group had been established to co-ordinate relief and rehabilitation activities for the IDPs.
Prime Minster Gilani said statements of some other ministers had created confusion about return of the IDPs, and added that except for those who were authorised for the purpose, no one should issue statements on the subject. Responding to a point of order raised by Aftab Sherpoa, objecting over the recruitment of ex-army men in police.
The Prime Minister said the terrorists were targeting law-enforcement agencies and personnel of the security forces and police with a view to demoralising them. With this in view, the government was recruiting ex-servicemen in police, who had necessary background to take up security responsibilities immediately. They would also train local people, he added.
