Employees of Sindh Employees' Social Security Institution (Sessi) on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the "illegal" transfer and posting and the "proposal to close down operations of collection department" at Sessi head office.
The protesters were holding placards and wearing black bands and caps to express their resentment against the "discriminatory attitude" demonstrated by the chairman Sessi. Talking to Business Recorder, Ahmadullah, president, Sessi union, said that Sessi has already dismissed some 200 employees without any valid justification and termed the decision as political revenge by Awami National Party (ANP) led provincial labour minister.
He said the management of Sessi had earlier decided that the transfer and posting would only take place, if needed. However, the minister is himself violating his decision and transferring large number of Sessi officials especially Urdu-speaking at far-flung areas of the Sindh province, he alleged.
He said the institution, which supposed to be the welfare organisation for working class, is sheltering employers rather than to protect employees' rights. He added that Sessi has presently allowed self-assessment to employers for depositing monthly payment, pushing back the employees to get their prime rights.
He expressed apprehension over the issue, saying that it would also deprive some 500 workers of their jobs. Meanwhile, Ameer Nawab Khan, provincial minister for labour dispelled the perception that Sessi had planned to close down operations of collection department. He said that, "we always make all out efforts to facilitate working class of society without any discrimination". He said that management of Sessi had started negotiations the SESSI employees and striving to resolve issues quickly.
