Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that a special task force is being set up to check the incidents of terrorism while police force is also being trained on modern lines. He also ordered for setting up special check posts at entry points of cities and installation of CCTVs.
He was presiding over a meeting held here on Wednesday to review implementation of the policy for elimination of terrorism, overall law and order situation and performance of law-enforcing agencies and order situation in the province, disclosed an official.
He also said a close co-ordination is also being maintained between different agencies. He directed police officers to ensure an effective patrolling system in their respective areas while senior officers should also personally undertake patrolling as well as review the efficiency of police officials.
Chief Minister said that Pakistan is passing through a critical phase and facing challenges of terrorism and extremism. Responsibilities of police force have increased in the present situation and it would have to perform its duties with greater commitment and dedication for protecting the life and property of citizens.
"The whole nation would have to unite on one-point agenda for the eradication of extremism and terrorism in the interest of solidarity and survival of the country," he added. According to him, there is a need for promotion of brotherhood and religious harmony in the society for foiling nefarious designs of the elements out to destabilise the country.
Nothing could be more important in the present circumstances than maintenance of peace, therefore, government is utilising all available resources for this purpose. The meeting also took a number of decisions regarding maintenance of peace, close co-ordination between intelligence agencies and improvement of the performance of police.
Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Member National Assembly Muhammad Balighur Rehman, Advisor Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Jehanzeb Burki, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General Police Punjab as well as senior officers attended the meeting.
