Punjab Chief Minister, Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that those who are taking part in the relief activities for the displaced persons of Swat are participating in a noble cause and will be rewarded by Allah Almighty. He said the way people of Punjab were helping their brethren of Swat in their hour of need was a proof of the fact that they fully shared their problems and sufferings.
He stated this while receiving cheques for Rs 6.0 million from the people of various walks of life for the affectees of Swat at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Wednesday. Shahbaz said that Punjab government had taken solid measures for the relief and assistance of displaced persons of Swat and not only free atta was being provided to the IDPs staying at camps but trucks of essential items were also being sent regularly.
He said that medical teams sent from Punjab were also extending medical facilities to the displaced persons and more than one lakh affectees had been provided treatment facilities while medicines worth about Rs 100 million had also been distributed. He said that people of Punjab had donated generously for the affectees and millions had been collected.
He said that rehabilitation of displaced persons on return to their homes would be the main issue and provision of basic facilities would have to be ensured to them. He said that he wanted to set up a model hospital equipped with latest facilities for the affectees in Swat, which would be a gift from the people of Punjab to the people of Swat and other areas.
In response to a demand of the traders of Azam Cloth Market, the Chief Minister ordered setting up of two tandoors of Sasti Roti for the labourers in the market. Similarly, he directed Director General LDA to consider fixing of tiles in the market.
The donors appreciated the steps taken by the Chief Minister Punjab for the welfare of the common man and rapid development of the province and observed that under his sagacious leadership, Punjab had embarked on the road to progress and development. They further said it was due to the person of Shahbaz Sharif that people were taking an active part in the relief activities for displaced persons as they had complete confidence that every penny of donations would be utilised in a transparent manner.
Hafiz Abid Ali, Malik Nawazish Ali, Haji Liaqat Ali presented a cheque of Rs 2.5 million, Javed Habib Goraya Rs 1 million, Dr Asif and Chaudhary Usman Rs 1 million, Veena Malik Rs 5,00,000, Faisal Malik and Mian Dawood Afzal presented cheques of Rs 50,000 for the affectees of Swat. Member Provincial Assembly Farah Deba and Chairman Taskforce S A Hameed were also present on the occasion.
