Security forces have tightened their grip around terrorists as they have intercepted a telephonic conversation between Swat Taliban chief Maulvi Fazlullah and his spokesman Muslim Khan in which Fazlullah said he is seriously injured, Defence Sources told Business Recorder on Thursday.
"The conversation was recorded through satellite in which Fazlullah has said he was seriously injured in a clash with forces and the forces have encircled that area and have left no way to exit from the area," they said adding that Fazlullah also directed his fighters to step up attacks on security forces so that he could find some way out to shift to any other place.
Security forces in the ongoing 'Operation Rah-e-Raast' have killed 23 terrorists during the last 24 hours, while five terrorists have been arrested from Swat and Dir. Forces encircled the terrorists hiding in a nullah in Kanju area of Swat district and engaged them in firing and killed five of them, said a spokesman of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) here on Thursday.
He said the security forces conducted a clean-up operation in Meragai area of Swat and demolished two hideouts of terrorists and recovered heavy weapons including 8 rifles and 66 rounds, 4 pistols with 48 rounds and 1 binocular. The security forces had consolidated their positions around Shah Dheri area of Swat, and 17 militants were killed during an exchange of fire in the area, he added.
Security forces destroyed many terrorists' hideouts in the area around Miana, Ahingro and Baba Ziarat of Swat district, killing one terrorist and arresting two others. A Lashkar (local militia) conducted house to house search operation near white mosque of Ghazi Gae area of Upper Dir and killed many terrorists in the operation, the spokesman said, adding that the losses could not ascertained so far.
Security forces also conducted a search operation around Chakdara area of Dir district and arrested three terrorists and recovered weapons from their possession including illegal FM Radio, 1 twelve Bore Rifle and 1 thirty Bore Pistol, he said. In South Waziristan agency, militants fired three rockets from Mandan on Jandola Fort but no loss of life or damage was reported.
Two truckloads of food and other relief items were distributed among the displaced people of Malakand, while repair work on Takhtaband Bypass was still in progress by Army Engineers, the ISPR spokesman said. He said mobile phone service was functional in Alpuri and Shangla. He further said 2,682 cash cards were distributed on 1st July.
