Shutter-down strike in Faisalabad against load-shedding and exorbitant taxes has fizzled out due to split of Anjuman-e-Tajiran (AT) into two groups. The strike call was given by Mian Rizwan Siddique, President, Anjuman-e-Tajiran (Sher Group), while the dissenting Group headed by Khawaja Shahid Razzak Sikka, along with five other trade bodies did not respond to the strike call and their members remained abstained.
After two-days hunger strike in chowk clock tower, the members of Anjuman-e-Tajiran (Sher Group) on Thursday took out a protest rally against unscheduled and unprecedented power load shedding, price hike of petroleum and new tax laws of FBR. They also disrupted the traffic by setting tyres on fire and putting hurdles. The participants of the protest procession were carrying placards of their demands and they raised slogans against Fesco officials for their failure to cope with load shedding problem.
Furthermore, the protesters held a meeting in chowk clock tower, which was addressed by Mian Rizwan Siddique, President, Akhtar Hussain Malik, Vice President, Rana Asif Sarfraz, General Secretary Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajiran and other Business tycoons who voiced their indignation against levy of taxes and severe load shedding in Faisalabad.
Addressing the protest demonstration, transporters and traders have rejected increase in petroleum prices, and observed that it will badly affect the country's economic condition. They demanded of the government to review the decision and to withdraw it, otherwise they would go on strike.
The protesters stated that the Supreme Court had ordered to reduce petroleum products prices, but instead following the orders the government has enhanced prices of petroleum products. They said that the trader association is paying different type of taxes. They also declared that the current budget is not people-friendly because it snatched the available facilities from public.
