Ameer (chief), Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Syed Munawar Hassan, has urged the government to announce a timeframe for winding up the ongoing military operation in Swat and other parts of Malakand division.
Speaking at a press conference held here on Saturday, he said that the government should announce an exact date forthwith for winding up the military operation, moreover, he warned that the situation would be worsened if it were prolonged further. He also said there would be no peace in the region unless all the international troops, including Nato and US forces, are withdrawn from Afghanistan.
'JI believes that normality would return to region if the US withdraws its troops from Afghanistan and stop conspiracy against Islamic world,' he maintained. Munawar also called for a strong regional block of the neighbouring countries comprising Russia, Pakistan, Chain and Iran to end monopoly and imperialism of the US.
He was of the view that an atmosphere of aggression is being created in the country for the US interests adding that it is unfortunate that our own forces are in action against their own people. 'If we can hold dialogue with India, so we are not supposed to be reluctant to hold negotiation with our own people,' he said, adding that military operation is not the solution to resolve any issue at any cost.
He said that peace could have restored in Swat after signing an agreement with Sufi Mohammad, but the government, following the directives of the US, did not give sufficient time for implementing the agreement. Expressing dissatisfaction over the daily facts and figures issued by ISPR regarding killing of militants and armed forces, JI Ameer demanded that independent media coverage should be given accesses to the troubled areas so that it can expose real picture of the entire scenario. Moreover, he said that government has not been able to cope with the situation, as over four millions people of troubled areas have been dislocated so far.
