Chairman, North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), Mohammad Younus Khamisani has said industrialists would be left with no opinion but to close down their factories if prevailing long hour load shedding and power breakdown continues.
In an SOS to Chief Executive Officer of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) Naveed Ismail urged him to come to rescue of industrialists of the area who are sustaining heavy losses due to continues power outages. Previously shortage of electricity was not so badly effecting the industries in industrial areas of the city. But now due to continues unannounced load shedding on large scale, the industries cannot continue their production processes.
He said that North Karachi industrial area represents a cluster of small and medium size enterprises. 90 percent of which are export oriented but due to financial constraints and limited capacity they cannot afford to use generators that could run the wheels of their factories.
He pointed out that the association has provided sufficient office space to the KESC staff to establish a complaint centre for the benefit of the members but this complaint centre is serving no useful purpose and added that it cannot explain reason for frequent unannounced load shedding.
The only answer they give is that to get over shortage of power supply every sub-station is being closed down for two hours or so which is obviously not enough to complete production process of any factory. He has also complained that it is not possible to contact the operational staff of KESC as the required frequency has been removed from the wireless system provided to the complaint centre.
He said that in case the present situation continues, industrialists would be left with no option but to close down their factories as a result of which work force will be ousted from their employment which is bound to create labour unrest and severe law and order problems.-PR
