A rift is resurfacing between the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as sources in the PPP Punjab have blamed the PML-N for sponsoring a shutter down strike by traders. It may be noted that Anjuman-e-Tajiran Lahore and Qaumi Tajir Ittehad had given a strike call for Saturday against increase in petroleum products' prices and frequent electricity load shedding.
It is generally believed that Anjuman-e-Tajiran is traders' wing of the PML-N. President Anjuman-e-Tajiran Lahore was a strong supporter of the strike against fuel price hike and power load shedding. According to the sources, undercurrents suggest that both the parties are poles apart as yet on a coalition set up, particularly in Punjab, because of their ideological differences.
The sources suggest that the PML-N was not happy with the move for Siraiki province, allegedly sponsored by the PPP, and it was followed by a strong statement by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, terming the coalition agreement with the PPP as not more than a piece of paper.
The political circles believe that both the sides are still poles apart and they are acting as coalition partners under pressure. Similarly, the circles suggest that the workers of both the parties are not digesting the coalition set up due to ideological differences, and the party leadership on both sides is facing tough time due to the fact. The political circles are of the view that the rift between the two sides is likely to widen, which may lead to another political crisis in the country.
