Indiscriminate firing caused panic in Shahzad Town area-one of the most Posh localities in the capital. Islamabad Police arrested seven persons along with arms and ammunition. Shahzad Town is adjacent to Rawal Dam and known for its better environment and scenic beauty where upper class has built farmhouses and castles on plots allotted for agriculture purposes.
These elites include former President Pervez Musharraf, former Chairman Senate Muhammadmian Soomro and various other civil and military bureaucrats, MNAs and Senators. After a heavy firing, Islamabad Police along with anti-terrorist squad reached the scene and arrested seven of them. They took them to some unknown destination for investigation. The incident took place in early morning hours causing panic in federal capital where security was put on high alert.
According to police, on a tip off regarding the presence of armed men in Shahzad Town, Islamabad police along with anti-terrorist squad (ATS) conducted a raid in the village in the wee hours of Saturday. The entire region was cordoned off to search the armed men hiding in the area, police sources said. The armed men opened fire at the police, who retaliated. The shootout continued for several hours after which the police overpowered seven men with sophisticated weapons.
APP adds: On the special instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Muhmmad Iqbal Khan, City Police arrested more than 100 suspects in connection with the Chor Chowk blast. Police here on Saturday launched a search operation and held more than 100 Afghans and other suspects for interrogation regarding Chor blast.
