Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Monday has appealed to Chief Justice lftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to rescue the country from economic meltdown by taking suo motu notice and recovering huge loans taken by generals, bureaucrats, landlords, industrialists and other bigwigs during past 39 years.
In an open letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan from London, Altaf Hussain said "no one should be spared, not even if the defaulter belongs to MQM", adding this letter be considered as a petition for proceeding against the defaulters. "Dear Chief Justice, the people have reposed great confidence in you even to the extent that they consider you as their deliverer," the letter said and hoped that the Chief Justice would come up to their expectation by becoming their emancipator.
The letter said, "such brave action will not only earn you a name in history but also the indebtedness of every Pakistani child." The two-page letter bearing addresses of both London as well as Karachi residences of MQM chief appreciated the role of Chief Justice for his efforts to ensure prompt dispensation of justice, campaign to weed out corruption and lawlessness from the country.
The country is passing through a war like situation and its people are confronted with evils like price spiral, rampant unemployment and hunger whereas the federating units are not happy due to injustices, discriminations and deprivations. There is despondency everywhere and everybody seems disappointed with the future of the country as people have been forced to live below the poverty line while the government going from one country to another with a begging bowl in its hand, the letter deplored.
