Pakistan Electric Power Company has put in substantial efforts to execute a comprehensive system upgradation and infrastructure development plan in urban and rural areas of Sindh. Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) has been tasked to implement government's policy through Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and Khushaal Pakistan Programme.
Hesco has upgraded over loaded power transformers from 10/13 Mva to 20/26 Mva on 14/132 Kv grid stations of Sukhhar, Larkana, Qasimabad, Kandyaro, Kher pur, Rohri, Ghotki, Pannu Aqil, Kandhkot, Shikarpur, Haala and Shehdad pur. Besides this 40 Mva transformers have been installed in Larkana and Latifabad grids, where as 40 Mva transformer in Sukhhar site grid station will be installed very soon.
Extension work of 12 grid stations of 132 Kv in Pir-jo-goth, Nawabshah, Thatha, Mirpur Khas, Jhampeer and Juhi areas have been completed. Two grid stations of Hamayun and Dor areas have been upgraded from 66 Kv to 132 kv. Work on newly constructed Wahi Pandi grid station have been completed where as construction of 132 Kv Mehrab Pur grid station is under way speedily. These efforts will facilitate in strengthening the power distribution system to control the over loading, fluctuations and disruptions in power supply.
Along with this Hesco has provided electricity to 1900 villages of 22 districts of Sindh in the previous fiscal year. Pepco load management system has been consistently working to control the increasing load growth. On 8 July 2009, the demand of electricity went up to 15879 Megawatt. The load of 2262 MW was managed, it is to be noted that last year same day the load shedding up to 4092 MW was carried out, which clearly indicates improvement in the over all electricity distribution situation. Meanwhile, a total of 680 MW were exported to KESC where as it was 570 MW last year.
