The traditional Indonesian songs and cultural shows enthralled gathering in the Indonesian Embassy here on Wednesday at a social programme organised as part of preparation to celebrate the upcoming 64th Independence Day of Indonesia.
The glimpses of the rich Indonesian culture and the artistic performances amused and entertained guests with performances such as Indonesian slogan of "unity in diversity" and traditional Indonesian songs and dances, reflecting the distinct cultural diversity.
Wife of Indonesian Ambassador Butar Latuconsina, in her opening speech, said that their embassy in Pakistan organised this cultural programme in connection with the upcoming Independence Day with a view to promoting harmony and friendship between the people of Indonesia and Pakistan.
She extended warm welcome to the guests, saying that this programme was a special occasion for her country because Indonesian nation all over the world had started preparations to celebrate the upcoming 64th Independence Day by organising variety of social and cultural programmes.
She said that she had received great warmth, love and support from the people and she felt in Pakistan as in her own country. This followed Piso Surit dance as welcome dance to lead chief guest arrives on her seat by Hudi Istanto and Dhea, her daughter. This followed Indonesian cultural show.
The ambassador's wife led the colourful Simalungun Rakyat, a religious dance, presented by the members of Indonesian women Association. Merak dance, one of the dances from West Java is Merak or peacock dance, drew attention of everyone with performers beautifully blending the gestures of a peacock with the classical movement of the Sundanese dance and thus making the dance a colourful expression of the proud peacock. Merak Dance was presented by Febi, Icha and Novi. Pakistan side was presented by children of Women Crisis Centre with a beautiful dance on a melodious cultural song. The ambassador also presented a gift to Women Crisis Centre's chairperson Dr Rubina.
