Executive Director South Asia Partnership (SAP) Muhammed Tahseen has demanded that decision of posting administrators in the local government institutions should be reversed and fresh local government election should be held. He was addressing the press conference along with the Town Nazim Data Ganj Baksh Town Tariq Sana Bajwa and other local government representatives on Friday.
He termed this decision against the democratic values. He also said that according to the section 159 of the local government ordinance 2001 local governments would not be replaced before the establishment of new local government. Similarly, in the same way according to the article 10 of the Charter of Democracy it was decided that sovereignty of local governments should be protected.
He said that this system set new traditions of democratic values by involving 85,000 people in the democratic process. He also said that this system is also proving very helpful in providing relief to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North West Frontier Province.
Speaking on the occasion Town Nazim Data Ganj Baksh Town Tariq Sana Bajwa said that this system represents the will of the 70 percent people of the country and in every system there is a room for betterment which can be done through amendments. He said that the essence of this system was that the Local Governments would be accountable to the citizens for all their decisions. It would enable the proactive elements of society to participate in community work, development related activities and would remove rural-urban divide.
