Central General Secretary of Jama'at-e-Islami, Pakistan, Liaquat Baloch, has stressed the need for giving autonomy to all the four provinces. Addressing a news conference at Press Club here on Tuesday, he said: "Use of power is no solution to the Balochistan issue. He said only giving provincial autonomy and resolving problems faced by people of this province could ease the crisis.
He recalled that after creation of Pakistan, autonomous states of Kalat, Bahawalpur, Sibi, Dir, Swat and Chitral, through their Jirgas and state laws, had made them part of the new county. Unfortunately, due political, social and economic rights could not be provided to people of these areas during the last 62 years, which resulted in the unrest amongst them, he said.
He stressed the need for resolving problems faced by the people in all the four provinces through political dialogue, and giving autonomy to them instead of allowing foreign elements to take advantage of unrest and disillusion amongst the masses.
He termed the assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti a target killing, and demanded of the government to take effective measures against incidents of target killing. Responding to a question, he said that the JI would not support demand for "Azad Balochsitan", as this would weaken Pakistan as well as Balochistan. He noted that foreign elements were hatching conspiracies to deteriorate law and order situation in Balochistan.
