The 63rd Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated in Multan and other parts of southern Punjab with traditional zeal and enthusiasm and renewed commitment for the progress and prosperity of the country. The students, who had obtained top positions in the SSC examinations, hoisted the national flag in place of nazims as per the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister, Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
The Sargodha police claimed to have foiled a sabotage attempt and arrested two terrorists with explosive material. The day dawned with special prayers at mosques for the progress and prosperity of the country. The celebrations, which kicked off at midnight, rose to their height in the morning and continued for the whole day, as the ruling Pakistan People's Party and other political parties celebrated this auspicious occasion in a dignified manner by hoisting the national and party flags.
The main event of the day was a flag-hoisting ceremony in the city. Rallies, processions and functions were organised by various social welfare organisation and political parties in all small and major towns and cities of southern Punjab to mark the day. The government and private buildings were illuminated, and the people decorated their houses, shopping centres and offices with national flag, banners, paintings and balloons.
