The ongoing rain spell is likely to continue to lash the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, most parts of Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas for two to three more days, predicted Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Dr Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, on Sunday.
Talking to a private news channel, he said the weather system, already activated from Himalayan region, would most probably be confined to upper parts of the country for few more days.
Torrential rains coupled with thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Chakwal, Murree, Peshawar, Kohat and upper districts of the country. The people of southern Sindh could also expect some respite from scorching heat as there was a 20 percent possibility that the ongoing weather system could also hit some parts of Sindh, he said.
Likewise, warm and dry weather is likely to continue in most parts of Balochistan. Shinkari has already received 300mm, Balakot 140 mm, Muzaffarabad 80 mm, Kakul 65mm, Rawalpindi 28mm, Saidu Sharif 28mm, Lahore 22mm, Jhelum 19mm, Ghari Dupatta 16mm, Mangla 10mm, Murree 7mm, Sialkot 6mm and Islamabad 5mm. Responding to a query, he said, "Water situation in the country is good despite around 30 percent decrease in monsoon rains, thanks to sufficient snowfall in catchment areas during the winter season." Tarbela and Mangla dams are likely to fill to their capacity, he added.
