The Syrian Ministry of Defence on Sunday denied media reports that a botched missile test had killed 20 Syrian civilians last May. "All the news reports of the test-firing of the missile and the casualties are completely unfounded," the Syrian Defence Ministry said in a statement.
Japan's Kyodo news agency, citing an unnamed Western diplomatic source, on Friday reported that 20 people had been killed and 60 wounded in a village in northern Syria, near the border of Turkey, when a test of a joint Syrian-Iranian-North Korean missile programme went awry in May.
