A condolence meeting for late Foreign Secretary Niaz A Naik was held at the Foreign Office Monday. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Former Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar, Former Secretary General Akram Zaki, Former Foreign Secretaries Riaz Paracha and Shamshad Ahmad Khan, Former Special Secretary and the President of the Association of Former Ambassadors Sher Afghan and the officers of the Ministry.
In his remarks the Foreign Minister paid rich tributes to the late Niaz A Naik for his services to Pakistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He said Naik was a distinguished diplomat who served Pakistan with great commitment and professionalism. He was a man of exceptional qualities. His humility, soft manners and ability to build consensus would be remembered for years.
He particularly lauded the late Ambassador Naik for his valuable contributions in track-II diplomacy. In his comments the Foreign Secretary recalled the contributions of Niaz A. Naik towards promoting the cause of Pakistan. He said that Niaz A Naik was a diplomat par excellence, imbued with an unshakable commitment to the international goodwill and co-operation.
The Foreign Secretary said that his loss will no doubt be felt acutely by his family, friends, colleagues, and admirers in Pakistan and around the world but his services to the country will continue to serve as a guiding light for generations.
Former Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar in his remarks praised the contributions of the late ambassador and Foreign Secretary, especially in handling the difficult situation following the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and his leading role in the establishment of Saarc. The meeting concluded with prayers for the departed soul.
