Minister for Postal Services Mir Israr Ullah Zehri on Friday said that establishment of Small and Smart Express Post Centres (SSEPC) would not only enhance share of postal business but also help further strengthen public confidence in the postal services.
Inaugurating the two-day Postmasters General Conference here, he said that numbers of private courier companies were operating in the country and those could be competed only with the provision of better service to the customers. He stressed the postal executives to fully concentrate on provision of better service delivery to the customers, adding that no slackness would be tolerated in this regard.
The minister said Postal Service Ministry was formed with an aim to bring the postal services at par with international standard, and asked the officials to work hard and made concerted effort for the success of SSEPC service. The minister said Pakistan Post was profitable institution and new services and projects were being introduced to generate more revenue.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan Post Director General Muhammad Ahmed Mian said that demand of Express Service had significantly increased in the current competitive scenario. He said the initially 100 SSEPC would be established across the country to provide better and prompt service to the customers.
He said that during the conference major focus area would be promotion and development of Express Postal Service, establishment of SSEPC at commercially viable points and securing corporate business to increase market share of Pakistan Post.
The DG also dwelt upon the other important issues, which would be deliberated to bring perceptible improvement including computerisation and Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) related issues. He said Pakistan Post had disbursed five million rupees under BISP among the needy so far across the country.
Muhammad Mian said that carrot and stick principles had been introduced in the organisation to promote performance-based culture. He said that in the fierce competitive environment, Pakistan Post could only prosper through catering the expectation and demands of the customers.
Later, the DG distributed cash prices amongst the postal officers who secured highest position in the Express Post business during 2008-09. All postmasters' generals, general managers postal life insurance and other senior executives were participating in the conference.
