Bearish sentiment persisted on the interbank market on Saturday as dollar buying continued by the importers, dealers said. On the interbank market the rupee fell and shed 10 paisa versus dollar for buying and selling at 83.05 and 83.10, they said.
At the weekend dollar and yen fell after a strong US housing sales report and upbeat comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke reduced the safe-haven appeal of the US and Japanese currencies. At an annual Fed conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Bernanke gave his clearest signal yet that a recovery is at hand, although he warned that growth would be sluggish.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shrugged off its weakness, gaining five paisa for buying and selling at 82.85 and 82.95, they said. The rupee did not show any change against euro for buying and selling at Rs 117.75 and Rs 118.25, they said.
