Federal Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim urged the private sector to identify ways together with public sector to boost the export of new value-added products. Speaking during a meeting with the representatives of trade bodies which the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) had organised on Tuesday to discuss the trade policy 2009-12, he said that traders should also focus on Asian markets for exports augmentation, a TDAP official said.
Chief Executive TDAP Syed Mohibullah Shah apprised the attendees that the discussion on Trade Policy has been called to evolve an export-oriented plan with the private sector to meet the global economic challenges and work jointly for the rise of country's exports.
The government and traders agreed on the continuation of efforts for better access of Pakistani products to the European and US markets and exploit trade opportunities in the accessible markets of China, Russia, Central Asia and Africa.
Traders highlighted their problems in trade increase and urged the government for evolving coherent investments, industrial and trade policies to reach the set fiscal exports target this time. TDAP plans a similar kind of meeting for Lahore and other major industrial cities, according to him.
