Managing Director Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Tahir Basharat Cheema on Thursday said that disciplinary action has been initiated against those officials who were found guilty in tariff irregularities in Chak Shahzad farms. He said this while briefing the members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Water and Power that met here to discuss inquiry report on Chak Shahzad farms, chaired by Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah.
He said that notices were issued to the persons who were misusing the irrigation tariff at otherwise residential premises and revised bills were given from the date of connection till date and an amount of around five million rupees was recovered. He admitted that the standing committee on Water and Power was to be credited for helping out the Ministry of water and power for the timely checking of irregularities in tariff in Chak Shazad Farms.
Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer, KESC briefed the committee on the affairs of the KESC and the prevailing power situation in Karachi. He apprised the committee that the present government showed its dissatisfaction on the performance of the management of KESC for not handling the KESC affairs, load shedding crisis in Karachi and other financial problems.
He said that the previous management had been removed by the Abraaj Group and a new team had taken over KESC who were committed to overcome the problems of load shedding, financial issues and also to eradicate the Kunda System in Karachi.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali, Anjam Aqeel Khan, Rana Afzaal Hussain, Muhammad Nawaz Ali, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Salahuddin, Muhammad Afzal Khokhar, Bilal Yasin, Syed Zafar Ali Shah and Sardar Muhammad Israr Tareen besides Additional Secretary Water and Power, Naveed Ismail, CEO KESC, Tahir Basharat Cheema, MD Pepco, Raja Abdul Ghafoor, CEO, Iesco and other senior officials of the Ministry of Water and Power.
