The government has not made any request to UN Commission for interrogation of former President General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) in Benazir Bhutto's assassination case, said Attorney General Sardar Latif Khan Khosa. The AG said "I don't know whether Musharraf is suspect in Benazir murder or not", however, no one enjoys immunity in criminal cases under the law of the land.
A two-member delegation of the UN Commission probing assassination of Benazir Bhutto met Attorney General of Pakistan, Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa at his office here on Thursday. After a detailed meeting with the UN Commission members, Milbert Shin-senior analyst of the inquiry commission and Suman Pradhan, political affairs officer of the inquiry commission, the Attorney General told reporters that the team held discussion with him about the investigation of the case.
The AG said that Benazir's murder was a continuity of Karsaz incident, where she survived attempt on life. The possibility of involvement in the BB murder of Karsaz culprits cannot be ruled out, he added. He declined to comment on the details of the meeting; however he said to have shared information about Benazir Bhutto with the commission's members that he had.
Khosa said that Commission had a mandate of six months to complete the job and it was doing wonderful job in this regard. The delegation was also given a briefing regarding criminal law of the country, the AG added. "We have given the Commission a free hand to reach the truth, as Ms Bhutto was not an ordinary figure instead she was an internationally acknowledged personality,"Khosa said.
He said the Commission members have also sought some documents, dossiers and especially the election petitions filed during the general election. He said the people involved in Benazir murder could be in the service of Pakistan but not in the government. He rejected the news that government was considering getting the trial of Benazir assassination conducted by international tribunal for inquiry.
However, the there was no restriction on the Commission and it could inquire any one. "Out of 87, the statements of only three prosecution witnesses have so far been recorded by the trial court", Khosa said. Earlier, members of the Commission refused to speak to the media.
