Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday demanded of the government to take the parliament into confidence regarding expansion of US embassy in Islamabad, besides issuing policy statement in the house over the issue.
Addressing a press conference here, PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal alleged that the government did not take the political parties on board prior to allowing the US embassy to undertake its expansion plan. Commenting on the media reports regarding distribution of money among politicians by ISI in nineties, he said that people do not understand the motives of the power that be and elected Nawaz Sharif time and again.
"These things are not new. People have rejected such high profile rumours several times and time and again we have cleared that it is a malicious campaign to damage the image of Nawaz Sharif", he maintained. He said that some elements are busy in spearheading venomous propaganda against Nawaz Sharif, fearing his rising popularity.
Nawaz has proved every now and then that all his actions are meant for supremacy of rule of law in the country. He warned that PML-N will continue its struggle and use every possible mean to get General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) tried and repeal the controversial 17th Amendment.
"We are against long marches at this critical juncture of economic and political uncertainty but we will come to the streets as we did for restoration of judiciary as a last option," he added. Terming the 17th amendment as extremely fatal for democracy, he said that as long as it is part of the constitution, democracy cannot be restored in the true sense.
He said after ridding the country of despotic rule, there was a need to remove the remains of dictatorship. Underlining the need of promoting politics of principles, he called upon the political parties to forget their past as they would get nothing by indulging in such negative activity.
