The rupee showed further weakness against dollar on the currency market on Saturday owing to the forward buying of the US currency by the importers, experts said. On the interbank market the rupee lost five paisa more versus dollar for buying and selling at 83.10 and 83.15, dealers said.
At the weekend dollar edged up against yen and euro in light trade as mixed economic reports from around the world left traders guessing about the underlying health of the global economy. Data showing Japanese deflation and unemployment at record levels and a sharp slide in household spending kept yen under pressure two days ahead of Japan's general election.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee continued its slide against dollar losing 15 paisa for buying and selling at 83.00 and 83.10, dealers said. The rupee, however, shed 50 paisa versus euro for buying and selling at Rs 117.80 and Rs 118.30, they said.
