Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani left here on Sunday to attend the 40th anniversary of Libyan revolution. On the sidelines of the anniversary celebrations he would hold meetings with Libyan and world leaders to apprise them of Pakistan's efforts in war against terror and the rehabilitation of IDPs.
Prior to his departure, he told reporters at PAF Base Chaklala that during his visit from August 31 to September 2, he is expected to meet a number of world leaders who would also be in Libya to attend the anniversary. 'We are fighting a war on terrorism and the world should focus on that. They should focus on Pakistan and its economic development and reconstruction and rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs),' the prime minister said.
He said that the capacity building of Pakistan's law enforcement agencies should also be the focal point of the world for their role in fighting terrorists. The prime minister is also expected to hold meeting with his Libyan counterpart Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi. The visit would contribute to further strengthening of relations between the two countries. According to a statement by the foreign office, the visit signifies the importance Pakistan attaches to enhancing its bilateral ties with Libya which also currently chairs the African Union.
Replying to a question, the prime minister condemned the suicide attack in Swat and said such tactics will not dampen the morale of Pakistani law enforcers.
He said Pakistan was proud of its armed forces who are fighting terrorists. "We are proud of our jawans in law enforcement agencies and the personnel of Pakistan army who are fighting these elements courageously.' Furthermore, Gilani said such attacks by the terrorists were part of psychological warfare as during the winters they will not be able to go to mountains to launch their attacks.
He was seen off at the air base by the three services chiefs, federal ministers and high officials. Minister of State for Information Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari was also present to see off the prime minister.
