Denmark to harvest 9.8 million tonnes of grain

The Danish grain harvest will reach a record 9.8 million tonnes in 2009, up from 9.1 million last year, the Danish farming newspaper Landbrugsavisen said, citing a survey of 12 agriculture consultants. Denmark is a producer of oats, barley, wheat and rye. The current record is from 1990 when the grain harvest was 9.6 million tonnes, Landbrugsavisen said. The average Danish grain harvest is 8.8 million tonnes, it said.
The record harvest is due to a very good yield of winter wheat and spring barley and a larger-than-normal area planted with grain, the paper said. More than 95 percent of the grain has been harvested, it added.
