Pakistan People's Party (PPP), NWFP, on Tuesday urged the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) to answer the questions raised in the media regarding distribution of funds by the intelligence agencies during the general elections of 1990 in the country.
Addressing a press conference Senior Minister in NWFP cabinet Rahimdad Khan and Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation Liaquat Shabab rejected the allegations of the establishment of special cell for spreading propaganda against the leadership of the PML-N. They said that PPP had always struggled for the promotion of reconciliation and national consensus on important matters.
They alleged that the second and third cadre leadership of the PML-N was running smear campaign against President Asif Ali Zardari. He said that as they themselves had passed through such difficult time. Therefore, how could they promote hatred against their own government.
The PPP ministers that people were concerned with the prevailing situation in the country and the government was promoting the environment of reconciliation and consensus among the political forces for strengthening democracy. They said that the party leadership had fought a long battle for establishment of democracy and thousands of its workers had been killed.
The party, they said, had traditions of the establishment of a system based on reconciliation and consensus. "The PPP leadership in the struggle for democracy got the nation rid of Pervez Musharraf and faced the cases filed against them during Nawaz Sharif-led government," said Rahimdad Khan. He said that President Asif Ali Zardari also remained in jail for over eight years.
The government of Nawaz Sharif, he said, implicated Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in different cases and forced her on exile, but she in the larger interest of the people adopted the course of reconciliation and established understanding and forgave all injustices of Nawaz Sharif. Liaquat Shabab said the PPP had no role in the present revelation in the media by some former military officials.
"The whole conspiracy has been hatched by Brigadier Imtiaz (Retd), Lieutenant General Asad Durrani (Retd) and Lieutenant General Hameed Gul (Retd). The PPP leadership, Liaquat Shabab said, had always respected the superior judiciary and fought their cases in every court. "We had never boycotted any court and the people who are facing charges should contest them in the court of law," the minister said.
