Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan has successfully completed two solar-energy-run tube wells, each having a capacity to lift eight litres of water per second. BZU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Zafarullah inaugurated the solar tube well units at the University Warble agriculture farms and said the varsity had taken lead in an important project of agriculture rich South Punjab.
The two solar tube wells were installed at a cost of Rs 3.3 million by the university in co-operation with Friends group of Pakistan Crop Protection Association, stated a BZU release. It could irrigate 800 acres area in a year and would be handy in cotton and wheat cultivation, stated the release. Dr Bilal Ahmad gave a briefing to the VC on the project and stated the benefit to growers would reap in the days to come.
The VC termed the project a "milestone" and said that those solar energy tube wells would serve as a model for university Agriculture College. "The college must take maximum advantage of the facility to move forward with their education and research related to solar energy applications in agriculture". Dr Mushtaq Saleem, Dr Jahangir Siyal, Haji Ata ur Rehman, Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, Asif Majeed and others were also present, the release added.
