The rupee managed to recover sharply against dollar on the currency market in process of strong demand for the US currency, experts said. On the interbank market the rupee was higher by 10 paisa versus the greenback at 82.92, it also gained nine paisa for selling at 82.98, dealers said.
In the second Asian trade yen held near a seven-week peak on dollar, while Australian dollar slipped after its central bank sounded less hawkish than some had anticipated. The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), holding its cash rate at 3.0 percent as expected, said the current low level of rates was appropriate, countering speculation it would adopt an explicit tightening bias.
