Hike in POL prices: Jamaat-i-Islami announces countrywide protest from September 4
Jamaat-i-Islami Pakistan has announced countrywide protest against the fresh hike in POL prices from September 4, Friday. Demonstrations and rallies will be held on the day at different stations under the aegis of JI and instructions in this regard were issued at a high level meeting chaired by JI General Secretary, Liaquat Baloch at Mansoora on Tuesday.
Addressing the meeting, Liaquat Baloch said that POL bomb has been dropped on the masses without any moral or legal ground at a time when the people were facing the sugar and atta (flour) crisis created by the ruling party. He said that POL prices had been raised when the prices of the petroleum products in the world market was 148 dollars per barrel.
Now that the price in the world market had dropped by almost 50 percent, fresh raise was a cruel burden on the people. The JI leader noted that the fresh raise was due to the IMF conditions, which made it mandatory to revise POL gas and electricity rates at the time of each loan instalment.
