Considering the increasing number of patients in the Federal Government Services Hospital (FGSH), the Ambassador of Argentina Rodolfo J Martin-Saravia has allowed Ministry of Health to expand building of the hospital over one-third part of the Argentine Park located next to FGSH.
This was announced by the Ambassador of Argentine while addressing a joint press conference along with Secretary Health Khushnood Akhtar Lashari, Chairperson Senate Standing Committee on Health Senator Ms Kalsoom Perveen and Executive Director FGSH Dr Shaukat Kiani here on Tuesday.
"A new block of the hospital will be constructed at part of Argentine Park while more health services in other specialised areas will also be included in new block for patients," the ambassador added. He said it was more important to see using part of this park by the hospital for welfare of humanity as there was no other option to extend the hospital.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has refused to allow the FGSH authority to use the Argentine Park for its expansion. As they were of the view that the land meant for the park should not be used for construction of the hospital. However, the land was actually gifted by the Argentina to the CDA.
The ambassador further said that the expansion of the hospital would include 500 more beds. He said everyday a large number of patients visited the hospital coming from various parts of the country.
He said though hospital's doctors and para medical staff are providing best services to the patients however, the hospital has lack of space for further expansion. He said "We are going to help whatever possible regarding construction of the new block. We are going to perform some events for getting funds with the support of Pakistani community for the project."
The Ambassador said the project was not so expensive and expressed hope that private sector would support the hospital in this regard as the project is itself so important for humanity point of view. He said the Argentine has planned training of Pakistani nurses for oncology purposes on related medical issues like patient's care and dealing with other health complications.
Secretary Health said that an amount of Rs 4 billion has already been allocated for expansion of the hospital and the existing number of beds, which is 508 would be increased to 1110 after construction of new block at the Park. He said the work on the four-storey block would be started in the current year and completed in two years. He said two more departments of Oncology and Neurosurgery would be established in new block besides other health services. A separate oncology nursing block would also be constructed in the park, he added.
Chairperson Senate Standing Committee on Health Senator Ms Kalsoom Perveen said that the members of the committee played an important role in resolution of the issue. She said that CDA had rejected the plan to use the park for hospital expansion however, due to media support and positive consideration of Embassy of Argentina, the issue has been resolved.
