Malaysian shares closed up 0.48 percent Thursday on gains in finance and property blue chips, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 5.65 points to 1,173.66. Advancers outnumbered losers 454 to 169. "Intermittent profit-taking was evident throughout the day but value hunting by local funds helped to keep the market afloat," a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires.
Among gainers, gaming group Genting added 5.60 percent to 6.81 ringgit and E&O was up 13.10 percent to 1.47. On the downside, gaming firm Berjaya Sports Toto lost 0.90 percent to 4.32 ringgit while SP Setia also lost 0.90 percent to 4.36.
