Bhurban Declaration: PML-N demands restoration of Constitution to October 11, 1999 position
Pakistan Muslim Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday termed extra-constitutional steps cause of the present crises and demanded of the government to restore the Constitution to its October 11, 1999 position. The demand was presented in a declaration adopted by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the party, which met under the chairmanship of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, here.
"The declaration demands of the coalition government to restore Constitution of Pakistan to the position of 11 October, 1999 in accordance with the Article-I of the Charter of Democracy," said the resolution. It will be a gift for the nation if the government restores the Constitution to its October 11, 1999 position and start proceedings against its violators, the declaration added.
While showing its grave concerns over the rumours that the government is going to endorse all unconstitutional acts of Musharraf through 18th Amendment, it urged the government that all the problems which Pakistan is facing are direct result of the dictatorship, therefore, accountability of the former dictator is need of the hour.
On the occasion, PML-N vowed that it will support the federal government and the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for the purpose; both inside as well as outside the Parliament. "PML-N is of the view that after abolishing 17th constitutional amendment through 18th amendment, the 27-member constitutional committee can continue to work for incorporating pending matters into the Constitution as well," elaborated the declaration.
The meeting observed that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has already declared November 3, 2007 steps of Pervez Musharraf as illegal, while the Parliament never gave indemnity. Therefore; the meeting demands of the government that; being custodian of the State of Pakistan, it should register case against those responsible for violating the Constitution, the declaration maintained.
Meanwhile, the CEC also expressed its concerns over worsening situation in Balochistan and suggested convening All Parties Conference (APC) to redress the issue as early as possible. Regarding sugar and energy crises, the meeting demanded inquiry into the crises and rental power projects issue and after the Parliament's endorsement devise concrete policy for resolving the issues permanently, the declaration concluded.
